Community Blossoms Program

Make Yourself Happy. Make your Friends Happy. Make the Bees Happy. And Feed the Hungry. Serving the Calabogie, Springtown, Burnstown, White Lake, and Renfrew area – further afield with pickup only.

PURPOSE:

To lift the community’s spirits with flowers grown on our Calabogie Family Farm. To use profits from flower shares to grow fresh organically grown food and provide it to area food banks for those who are food insecure, especially during the pandemic.

ABOUT US:

Calabogie Family Farms operates on a Farm Share basis, where community members share the benefits of receiving weekly or bi-weekly boxes of local, organically grown produce and fresh-picked flowers from our family farm as they come into season.

ABOUT COMMUNITY BLOSSOMS:

Community Blossoms is being developed by me, Johnny Slack, my wife Emma and my family at Calabogie Family Farms. We are planting flowers to attract vital pollinators and hoping to sell shares for charity. All profits from our fresh-picked flower shares will go toward helping us to provide area food banks with local organic food. We want to help make our community and our bees happy and provide them with healthy food!

FIRST YEAR GOAL:

We hope to sell about 50 shares and deliver at least $5,000 worth of fresh, organic, locally farmed food to area food banks this summer. For each share you buy you will receive a bouquet of fresh-picked flowers every one or two weeks between late June and the end of September, depending on the share option you choose.  Enjoy them yourself or give them as a gift to someone else in the community. It’s an uplifting thing to do and to make it even more special, each bouquet comes with an inspiring message about community. Just when you thought flowers couldn’t make your day feel any brighter!

WATCHING YOUR COMMUNITY BLOSSOM(S):

We will update all members by email and on social media with information and informative and calming videos showing life on our family farm as we prepare the soil, plant, nurture, and harvest flowers and produce. You will enjoy watching your flowers grow and seeing how much your shares will contribute to our community and to the bees.

Every bouquet will be a surprise as the flowers come into season. We’ll be sure to include some of our all-time favorites along with some new and heritage blossoms. How nice to have a special surprise to look forward to every week or two!

HOW TO GET THEM:

Pickup: Weekly from the farm at 93 Windle Road in Ashdad, Ontario (Greater Madawaska Township) on Wednesdays, Fridays, or Saturdays as soon as blooms become available. Or pickup at any of our pickup locations in Calabogie, Springtown, Burnstown, White Lake and Downtown Renfrew, to be determined soon.

Delivery: If you need your flowers personally delivered to your home or a gift address in the Calabogie, Springtown, Burnstown, White Lake and Renfrew area please contact us to see what we can do for you for a reasonable fee.

HOW CAN I HELP?

We are looking for volunteers who would enjoy being outdoors on a family farm this summer to grow food and/or get food to families. If you are considering starting your own organic garden or family farm, this will be an opportunity to learn everything “from the ground up” and get you off to a great start. If you or someone you know are interested, please email us early so we can find the best fit.

  ” I volunteered last Spring and Summer on your family farm as a way to escape a lot of stress from this pandemic and to give back. I thought I’d go a couple of times but soon wanted to go couple of times a week and for the most part helped weed and plant weekly for over six weeks. I realized how wonderful it was to be around this family of organic farmers who in turn taught me more about gardening than I’d learned in my entire life. Johnny, his wife Emma and their adorable daughter are deeply involved in making a contribution to our local community. I invite everyone to get to know them and their entire family. Great citizens of Calabogie and area. .” ~ Sue Lebrun
